Austin’s Best Bike Friendly Bars
There’s no better way to explore Austin than by bike. Austin is fairly compact, and many of its best restaurants and bars within a 5 to 10 mile radius of each other. Bike lanes and urban trails make crossing the city both easy and safe. Plus, when your on a bike, no need to deal with parking or expensive car share rides. There are so many great places to check out, but here are a few of our favorites.
Downtown Austin
1704 E 5th Street, Austin, TX 78702
The Yellow Jacket is a favorite local watering hole located in the heart of Austin’s east side. Its laid back vibe, shady outdoor patio and cheap drinks are sure to make it yours too! The delicious menu and free music don’t hurt its hangability either.
500 Comal Street Austin, TX 78702
The White Horse is the east side’s take on the classic honky tonk. Featuring a large dance floor inside and a spacious patio outside. The food truck “Bomb Tacos!” serves up, you guessed it, tacos, everyday from 6pm to 1:30am. There’s nothing too fancy about the White Horse, and that’s why Austin loves it so much.
1902-B E MLK Blvd Austin, TX 78702
The Wheel is a bar inspired by a love of life on two wheels. It is a comfy neighborhood bar located on Austin’s trendy E MLK district. Featuring tasty craft cocktails and beers on tap, a sunny patio and a rocking happy hour. Incredible sandwiches are available at the neighboring restaurant The Daily Press and are highly recommended.
North Central Austin

Opened in 1969, The Draught House Pub is one of Austin’s oldest draft beer establishments. Originally opened in 1969, they have been brewing their own beers since 1995. Things to love - a great selection of house brewed, locally crafted and imports on tap, yummy bar food and a spacious patio.
Spider House (has a new name) Ballroom

Another old school Austin establishment, Spider House first opened its doors in 1995 in the center of Hyde Park. Originally just a coffee shop and cafe, Spider House has since expanded to include the Spider House Ballroom, a live music venue. They are most famous for their beautiful outdoor patio which features an eclectic collection of new and vintage art pieces, plants and lights.
South Austin

Located in the heart of south Austin’s St. Elmo district, Spokesman is a bar dedicated to bikes. A spacious interior with ample seating (including a great bar) and delicious food makes it a lunchtime favorite. At night, it takes on more of a bar like atmosphere. Lots of art on the walls (check out the characters painted on the bathroom walls!) Located in an upcoming industrial zone that is also home to St. Elmo Brewing and Skull Mechanix Brewing.
1900 South 1st Street Austin, TX 78704
One of Austin’s most beloved coffee houses and vegetarian restaurants in the heart of Austin’s Bouldin neighborhood. Originally opened in 2000 at the location of the current Elizabeth Street Cafe, it moved into its new location in 2011. The beautifully restored building features great lighting, ample seating and a spacious patio. Wall space features a rotating collection of art from local Austin artists.
